HELPING YOU ACHIEVE YOUR TRAINING GOALS
The National Dual Training System is an industry-oriented training that combines workplace and institutional training.
School leavers or existing workers who meet the criteria can be offered this
scheme by a sponsoring company to undergo training.
A contract is signed between the company and the participants prior to the
training. Participants are given certain amount of allowance throughout the
training by the company and are obliged to work with the company upon
completion if they are offered employment.
In the SLDN, the practical or hands-on skills training is conducted in
workplaces by selected coaches of the company, whilst the theoretical class and
basic skills training in the training centre is undertake by the centre's
instructors.
Skills and knowledge assessment will be conducted continuously and the participants
are expected to get through the
assessment as well as the final test which will be conducted at the end of
training programme. Successful participants will be awarded with the national
skills qualification by Department of Skills Development.
The most distinguishing feature of the SLDN compared to other skills training
programmes is the requirement for coaches and trainers to infuse or integrate
human and social skills values as well as learning and methodological skills
explicitly in the conduct of teaching or facilitating of a technical content.
This is a value added component which is required by workers in the present
competitive world.
The Objectives:
To Produce Knowledge Workers
Target Participants:
School leavers or existing workers selected by the company.
Training Duration:
6 to 24 months, depending on programme and certification level as required by the company.
Training Approach:
Self reliant learning
Training Content:
Based on National Occupational Skills Standard (NOSS), NTDS Curriculum or other curriculum approved by DSD.
Assessment:
Continuous assessment and final test.
Certification:
Malaysian Skills Certificate (Level 1-3) or Malaysian Skills Diploma or
Malaysian Skills Advanced Diploma, depending on the programme.
The SLDN with its industry-oriented training concept, is deemed superior to institutional-based training because:
Ø It minimizes mismatch (quality and quantity) between the companies' requirement and skills workforce development through demand-driven orientation.
Ø Training is based on work process approach under actual work conditions.
Ø The need for continuous technological advancement (product and services)
Ø It minimizes dependence on foreign experts and skilled workers
Ø It increases the velocity of transferring technology to the people by providing training in the actual working environment
Ø that uses the latest machines, technology and practices.
Ø It offers strategic and cost-effective succession plan by recruiting new workers or upgrading existing workers.
Ø It inculcates positive training culture in companies, especially in SMEs.
